How Far are the Planets?

We made a table to show how far the planets are from the sun:

Pluto is the coldest planet because it is furthest from the sun.  (Mere & Nesi)
Venus is the brightest planet because it's thick atmosphere reflects light from the sun. (Victoria)
Earth is the only planet with oxygen so people can live there. (Phoenix& Paige)
The oxygen on the others planets turned into carbon dioxide. (Paige)
Uranus is the only planet that spins on it's side. (Pote)
Neptune is also very cold because it is far from the sun. (Zahra)
There is a possibility humans might be able to live on Mars. (Jasmine)
Uranus is the third largest planet in the solar system. (Aj)
Mercury is the smallest planet. (Sylis)
Pluto has five known moons. (Bianca)
Neptune is 4 times bigger than Earth. (Irys)
Saturn is the only planet that can be seen by the naked eye.    (Pote)

Auckland Museum at the Panmure Library

We were lucky to be invited to the Panmure Library for a special session with the GEMs (Guest Educator Maori) from the Auckland Museum.  They told us a legend about how Maungarei came about (our local mountain).  See below to read some of the recounts our class wrote following this trip.

You can see others by visiting the links on the side of our blog.

Today Room 7 went walking to the Panmure Library. Pare, Juanita, Ole, and Kare came from the Auckland Museum and told a story and we, had to act it. We learnt about our local mountain, Maungarei. We had to spilt into two groups of fairy  tribes. The two fairy tribes were learning a dance with the Patu (club) and the rakau ( sticks ) for our fight against the other group. We had our two fishers fishing in the water and they met each other and started to get married. The other group got angry because we took there princess and started to do there dance with there Patu and then we both started to make lots of noise and suddenly the floor started to shake and it was the owner of the Maungarei (Mountain). He got really angry and we made our two groups together nosier and we were all back to friends. After that we made an matau out of clay. Here are our photo's of our listening skills and doing our dance moves.

The Panmure Library

Today room 7 went to the Panmure Library. We walked all the way there. When we got to the Library we had to go and sit on mat. Half the class sat on a white and black mat and the other half sat on a red and black mat. We were fairy tribes. Our teachers names were Pare, Juanita, Ole and Kare . The half of the class that sat on the black and red mat had a club (patu) and the other half that sat on the black and white mat had a stick (rakau). We enjoyed practicing with the weapons with our teachers. After that we made a matau out of clay. To make the matau we had to get a necklace and push it in the clay. When it was finally time to go back to school I was really sad we had really great time there. I hope we do it again some time.

Today Room 7 went to the Panmure Library. We walked all the way. When we got there it had a nice cold air freshener. There were 4 people there and their names were  Pare, Juanita , Ole and Kare. Juanita took half of us outside and she gave us our Patu and we practiced some strikes. After she said tahi to toru we went inside to have a battle with the other group.

After that some people set out some tables , some paper towels and some felt pens. Pare gave us some clay they after we had to roll it into a big ball. Next we  had to squash it. Pare gave us a matau to share. We had to push down the matau on top of the clay so it makes a shape on the clay. After we wrapped the paper towel around the clay and we went back to school. I felt  happy to be there.By Zahra

Dance

In Dance we have been learning about air pathways and floor pathways. We used kowhaiwhai patterns to give us ideas of different pathways we could use in our dance. We had to put our movements and pathways together to create a dance. Here are some photos of us working today.  Perhaps next week we will try and take a video of our dances to post on our blog.

All About Us

Room 7 decided to investigate our favourite things as part of our topic: All About Us. We had to ask a question, collect information and present it on a graph. We had a big discussion about how to pronounce "graph"!

Here are some of our findings:

This is my graph on the favorite animal.

The people Must liked the leopard.

The less people liked the monkey and the horse and the kiwi

This is my Graph everyone made one and I did room 7s favorite sport we did this for maths. We found out that most of the girls like
netball. And we found out that rugby is boys favorite sport. Then we found out that basketball, tines, cricket and soccer are the lowest.

This is our graph that me and Eta have decided for 2014. On our graph purple and red has the same amount of numbers. The other thing is that pink, green and yellow has the least amount on the graph. Also blue is the only one that has the number 4 on it

Please visit our individual blogs to see other investigations. You will find these at the side of our blog.

School Picnic

We had such a great time at the school picnic!  Please visit our individual blogs to read all about our day at Eastern Beach.

Leenas:

Juanita

Shantay:

I am pleased with my performance because when I was saying my part of the act I said it loud and clear. I am also proud with my performance because the instrument people had helped the dancers to keep in time with the rhythm. I am pleased with the our classes performance because their tried their best and I think they went well. Our class room still needs to work on is to be quiet when we are coming around, more energy, and to keep in time with the rhythm. To make our production look good for the audience is to give them advice like to have energy, confidence, and to have fun. My family said that it was cool and funny at the same time. We need to be quiet when the lights go down. Have respect.

Wiremu: Term 3 Reflection

I enjoyed sports the most in this term and that was unihocky.

I enjoyed blocking and defending the shots.

I also learnt about maths and reading.  I learnt about landforms in reading and fractions in maths.

I am really proud of how I danced in my
production.

Next term I need to learn more in maths and try not to get distracted from some of my friends.

Sebastian  Term 3 Reflection

This term I learnt how to make a Popplet. I have done a lot of Popplets because it is now easy and I also learnt how to use clipping magic and pixlr and you can put a photo onto a picture.

I I am really proud of my school production because
I put all my effort and energy into my class performance and th the karanga.

Next term I need to work on my basic facts so I can get
better on XtraMath and I need to read more.

Reflection Questions by Alazay

* I am pleased with my strong actions I think I really improved.

* I am pleased with the classes performance of their energy
the classes had so much energy in them.

*   We (the dancers) need to work on giving more energy
and the actors need to work on louder voices.

Thing to remember are
* being quiet backstage
respect
manners

Evening Performance Night 1 Deziree

* I am pleased with my performance because I remembered to keep in time with the music.

* I am pleased that we didn’t make that much noise when going onto stage.

* I think we still need to work on not making any noise backstage.

* The actors need to stop laughing and the dancers need to show bigger actions.

*Tonight I will be in my best behavior and I will complete the worksheets and show good manners.

          Halatoa

I did my hardest performance and I was really  happy with myself and I put heaps of energy in the performance.

I think we should speak louder so the audience at the back can hear you and everybody will be happy.

I will be quiet when i walk and put the instrument and walk to the other
side and i will be in time.

My dad told me to speak louder and sing and my dad said it was cool.

Tonight  I will try to make my behaviour better tonight.

Anthony:
* I was pleased with my acting because I put some some effort and expression in to it.

* I was impressed with Room 5 because of their costumes.

* We still need to work on our speed and our confidence (not to be shy.)

* I’m going to make my classes performance even better by using more expression and be a little bit loud.

* I think we need to remember is -
  • Look up and smile
  • Try to not get distracted
  • Use more expression
  • Go on and off the stage quicker
  • Don’t make a sound

Landform Definitions

Rivers

How Rivers are formed;

Water rubs on the surface & breaking down of the land, causing a deepness to the land appearing, and in turn creating a river stream that moves.

Definition,
A river is a huge stream of water flowing into the ocean, lake, or other body of water for example Waikato River.

Volcano

A volcano has molten rocks inside it. One example of a volcano is in White Island. The earths crust is moving in and out like a jigsaw puzzle. A volcano is an mountain or an hill that erupts out lava or magma. Hot lava and volcanic ash  and gases to escape from the magma chamber below the surface.

In the Northwestern  Pacific Ocean people are saying that there might be a large volcano on earth, and could rival the largest in the solar system. Volcano eruptions can cause a lot of damage to a lot of people. Erupting volcanoes can pose many hazards, not only in the immediate vicinity of the eruption. Magma is molten rock within the earths crust.             You can also find a volcanos in the South island such as White Island.

This is my research about volcano's. I learnt that the earths crust is moving in and out just like a jigsaw puzzle. I had fun looking for some images and some information. The part I didn't like about it was writing it in my own words. I had fun doing some research.

My definition of a Volcano
by Joshua
A vent in the earth's crust through which lava, steam, and ashes are blown out is a volcano.Volcanoes are openings in the Earth’s surface. When they are active they can let ash, gas and hot magma escape in sometimes violent and spectacular eruptions.

Volcanoes are usually located where tectonic plates meet. This is especially true for the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area around the Pacific Ocean where over 75% of the volcanoes on Earth are found.

I am learning about facts and information on a volcano called White    Island. It is located in 48 km (30 mi) from the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand,in the Bay of Plenty.White Island has the honour of being New Zealand’s most continuously active volcano during the last 40 years. It is an uninhabited island about 2 km in diameter and 48 km from the coast of the Bay of Plenty. It marks the northern end of the Taupo Volcanic Zone.
Ocean
By Aburrahman

A Sea is a large body of salty water. A Sea may be partly or completely surrounded by land. Did you know that Oceans and Seas cover more than 71% of the Earth's surface? Wow thats a lot of water. The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest Ocean in the world. The Pacific Ocean has the title as ‘Peaceful Ocean’.The Pacific Ocean alone covers 30% of the earth. This is a picture of the Pacific Ocean:

Duffy Theatre by Christopher

On Tuesday the 29th of July 2013 Duffy Theatre people came to Panmure Bridge School and presented to us. This person here acted as alot of people. His normal name that he acted as was Scruffy. My best actor was Afi, she was funny too. When I walked in to the hall the wall which is behind this person, it was only a little wall but when it opens it is a huge wall, the wall folds open like a blanket. It was so fun there
THANK YOU DUFFY THEATRE FOR COMING TO OUR SCHOOL
